Life can be difficult, people can be difficult. Anyone in leadership is very well aware of these facts. In fact, most people whether they are involved in leadership or not, are aware of these realities. Attacks and difficulties can come from many different sources and at times can be very surprising. One of the most important action that a leader, or any person, can take is to provide encouragement.
Maintaining a positive attitude can be a struggle at times. It is truly amazing what a word of encouragement can do to a person. There are many times that we may not even be aware of the struggles and challenges a person may be facing on a given day. However, if we just offer words of encouragement, a boost can be provided to that person in wonderful ways. There may be times that we are aware of a particular situation that a person is facing and it is during those times that we absolutely must encourage one another.
Paul knew of the struggles facing the church and the people in Corinth and so part of his finally words to them in one of his letters was this:
“Finally, brothers and sisters, rejoice! Strive for full restoration, encourage one another, be of one mind, live in peace. And the God of love and peace will be with you.” (2 Corinthians 13:11, NIV)
Encouragement is needed a lot in our world. However, we often forget to provide that encouragement outside of a crisis situation. I am going to try today to be better at encouraging others. I hope that you will take on that challenge as well.
